Latino Scholars Graduate School Fellowship

APPLICATION DEADLINE: AUGUST 25, 2014, 5:00 p.m. (PDT)

In 2013, a group of engaged, committed UW faculty, civic and business leaders joined together to establish the Latino Scholars Graduate School Fellowship to provide financial assistance to students who have a demonstrated commitment to Latino communities.

The Latino Scholars Graduate School Fellowship is a one-time award of $1,000.

Eligibility

  • Student must be enrolled full-time in a master's or doctoral degree program at the University of Washington during the 2014-15 academic year;
  • Student's research, work, and/or service must demonstrate their commitment to Latino communities.

Application

It is preferred that the student's application (1-3 below) be submitted as one pdf document, though separate documents will be accepted. The letter of recommendation should be submitted directly by the recommender to Catalyst. If a recommender is not at the UW (i.e., does not have a UW NetID), the letter can be sent as an email attachment to Cynthia Morales.

To be considered for this fellowship, ALL the following materials must be received by the application deadline:

  1. Application form
  2. Personal statement (not to exceed two pages, double-spaced, 12 pt Times New Roman, 1 inch margins). Statement should address:
    • How this fellowship would impact your ability to complete a graduate degree program at the University of Washington.
    • Explain and describe how your personal commitment to Latino communities has taken shape in your service, research, and/or paid employment.
    • Describe your personal or professional goals and the ways in which your graduate education will enable you to sustain your engagement with Latino communities and issues in the future.
  3. Curriculum vitae or resume
  4. One letter of recommendation, not to exceed one page. [Letters should be submitted directly to the at:  Catalyst Collect-It box. Letters should be saved with the student's name in the title.]
    To the best of her/his ability, recommender should address the following:
    • The applicant's engagement with Latino communities and issues;
    • Obstacles the applicant may have encountered in her/his academic or personal journey and how she/he has responded to them; and
    • The applicant's academic strengths and academic progress.

Applications and recommendations should be submitted directly to the Catalyst Collect-It box.
