Professional Development

Resources and Events for UW Graduate Students and Postdocs

The UW Graduate School recognizes that graduate education leads to careers in a range of occupations both inside and outside academic environments.

Being prepared for a variety of careers following graduate education means enhancing your education and knowledge beyond the classroom, library, field, or lab. The Graduate School is pleased to offer workshops and presentations that provide that “value-added” education and skills.

Mentoring is a signature service of the Graduate School that is essential to professional development as well. Learn more about it and benefit from a wide range of mentoring resources at http://www.grad.washington.edu/mentoring/.

Extensive career development resources and events are offered as well by the UW Career Center: http://careers.washington.edu/.

2009-2010 Graduate School professional development events:

  • Help graduate students persist to graduation by providing assistance in navigating graduate education.
  • Identify non-academic topics and provide resources to help graduate students and post-doctoral fellows prepare for careers in a broad array of fields and professions.
  • Promote a broader sense of professional identity for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows beyond individual programs in disciplines or interdisciplinary fields.
  • Provide graduate students and postdocs with a competitive edge securing professional positions.

There is no registration or fee required for events.
