Public Lectures

The Graduate School at the University of Washington proudly presents the 2015-2016 public lecture series. This series is being brought to the UW community, citizens of Seattle, and the State of Washington through three very generous private endowments: The Walker-Ames Fund, The Jessie and John Danz Fund, and the Mary Ann and John D. Mangels Fund.

All lectures are free and open to the public, except those noted with an asterisk. To ensure a seat, please register in advance. Once registration for each event is available to the public, we will post a link to register online on the individual lecture page. You can access the lecture pages by clicking on the photos. Please be advised that standby seating will be offered whenever possible. Seating can only be guaranteed with a reservation. Feel free to direct all registration related questions to the UW Alumni Association at 206.543.0540.

2015-2016 Lecture Series

Equity and Difference: Keeping the Conversation Going public lecture series

As a nation, we have witnessed monumental moments of triumph in the pursuit of civil rights. Yet, today, individuals and society are still confronting the realities of oppression past and present. From race to gender, religion to sexual orientation, it remains crucial to elevate in these important conversations the voices of those who face injustice and indignities.

The Graduate School and the UW Alumni Association are proud to present a series of meaningful talks that expose and explain transgressions and struggles—both systematic and personal—experienced by too many in our communities today, featuring thought leaders from our campus and around the world who are working to open our eyes to the consequences of prejudice, and seeking solutions for change.
