Answering a request by UW student groups,
then-President
McCormick, the University of Washington Regents, student leaders, and UW
administrators signed a Diversity
Compact on October 21, 2000. They pledged to improve
diversity on the UW campuses through 19 specific initiatives explained in the
Diversity Compact. If you want to be involved in diversity issues on campus or
are interested in programs with minority graduate outreach programs, see the
links below. We also have included a list of community organizations that may be
of interest to you.

Q Center
- The Q Center facilitates and enhances an open, safe, inclusive, and
celebratory environment for queer (two-spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual,
transgender, intersex, questioning, same-gender-loving) and allied students,
faculty, staff and the campus community at large.

Summer Medical Education Program
- A 6-week national academic enrichment program for premed students who
are from disadvantaged backgrounds or who have a commitment to work with
underserved populations. Also eligible are students from rural, underserved
or underrepresented backgrounds.
