The Fellowship and Assistantship Division
The Fellowship and Assistantship Division (FAD) provides a number of services for the
Graduate School, its departments, and students. Our services may be grouped into
administrative services and counseling/information services. The Fellowship and
Assistantship Division assists students by publicizing upcoming deadlines, providing some
applications, and participating in the application process or administration of some (few)
awards.
I. The FAD coordinates and administers regional and federal fellowship and scholarship
programs which require Graduate School involvement. These duties include:
- Assist students with applications
- Manage the UW component of competitions
- Process payroll paperwork for recipients
- Authorize tuition payments for recipients
- Interpret policies of the funding agency and the University of Washington to fellows,
and UW faculty and staff
- Compile and file reports with the funding agencies
II. FAD administers and monitors fellowship moneys from private gifts. These duties
include:
- Manage the application process, including scheduling committee meetings.
- Advise students, faculty and staff on the application process and requirements.
- Notify applicants of the results of competitions.
- Process payroll paperwork and tuition payments.
- Report to donors.
III. FAD coordinates Fulbright and other international and research abroad
programs for students and faculty. These duties include:
- Help students with applications
- Manage the UW component of competitions
- Process payroll paperwork for recipients
- Authorize tuition payments for recipients
- Interpret policies of the funding agency and the University of Washington to fellows,
and UW faculty and staff
- Compile and file reports with the funding agencies
IV. The FAD administers and allocates fee waivers to departments and individual. These
duties include:
- Authorize and enter non-resident differential (NRD) waivers for eligible fellows and
trainees.
- Enter and monitor discretionary tuition waivers from the 1% fund for approximately 100
students.
- Troubleshoot tuition waiver problems.
