Joint Masters and Ph.D. Program

Description

The Mathematics Departments at Virginia Tech and Virginia State University collaborated to establish a joint Masters and Ph.D. program to increase the discipline's production of minority Ph.D. mathematicians. Students in the program attend Virginia State, a historically Black university, and receive their Masters of Education degree while taking one online course per semester from Virginia Tech. After two years, students have the opportunity to transfer from VSU to Virginia Tech and begin work on their Ph.D. The program is funded by the Department of Education's Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need program (GAANN).
