The Graduate Division of Biological and Biomedical Sciences at Emory University consists of eight interdisciplinary Ph.D. training programs. Each
program focuses on a major area of contemporary biology and seeks to provide
students with a broad multidisciplinary background, as well as advanced concepts and in-depth skills from at least two of the traditional biological
or biomedical sciences.
These programs provide students with more modern and competitive training than can readily be achieved through education in a
traditional single department program. Each student can be exposed to a wider range of faculty research interests than is possible within a
department. There is great flexibility in tailoring graduate education to
the particular needs and interests of each student.
At the time that students apply they do not need to know the faculty member with whom they
wish to work. Enrolled students will typically perform three laboratory rotations prior to selecting an
advisor. They also have the flexibility of working outside of their Program or
electing to transfer to one of the other Division Programs. Because of the
Division structure, every student potentially has access to training with
any of the more than 260 faculty members affiliated with the training programs.
