Networked Digital Library of Theses and
Dissertations (NDLTD)

Description

Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (NDLTD) is an initiative to improve graduate education, increase sharing of knowledge, help universities build their information infrastructure, and extend the value of digital libraries.

NDLTD is federation of members; it is an international, non-governmental organization with many projects and sponsors; with a web site, publications, training materials, documentation on standards, digital library content and systems, etc.; with a volunteer secretariat at Virginia Tech; and led by a steering committee and working committees.

The objectives of NDLTD are:

  • To improve graduate education by allowing students to produce electronic documents, use digital libraries, and understand issues in publishing

  • To increase the availability of student research for scholars and to preserve it electronically

  • To lower the cost of submitting and handling theses and dissertations

  • To empower students to convey a richer message through the use of multimedia and hypermedia technologies

  • To empower universities to unlock their information resources

  • To advance digital library technology

NDLTD is a worldwide effort, open to all nations, libraries, consortia, states, universities, colleges, schools, departments, individuals, and other interested organizations/parties. It is a federation of members who wish to work together in connection with one or more of our objectives. All can join, as explained at http://www.ndltd.org/join/.
