Ph.D. Career Fair

Description

The first annual North Carolina Ph.D. Career Fair on December 4, 2000 was held, from 1-5pm at the Friday Center for Continuing Education in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. UNC-CH co-sponsored the event with Duke University, North Carolina State University, and UNC-Greensboro.

The focus of the event is to bring together Ph.D. students with employers seeking to hire Ph.D. candidates. The employers attending the event represent a wide range of industries, hiring Ph.D.'s in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. The positions available will be in non-academic settings and will include openings in government agencies, not-for-profit organizations, and private corporations.

In early afternoon students had the opportunity to network with employers in a traditional career fair setting. During this networking session, some employers asked students to sign up for private interviews in the afternoon. From 3-5pm, some employers continue the networking/career fair session while others chose to interview students privately.
