Sustainable Cities Program

Description

The USC Sustainable Cities Program is an NSF-funded doctoral training program for students working toward PhD degrees in a wide variety of fields spanning the natural and social sciences, engineering, and public policy. Thus students and faculty who would not otherwise be expected to interact, get the opportunity to learn from one another and work across disciplinary lines. Students in the program complete a series of seminars and research courses on issues surrounding urban sustainability, environmental monitoring and technology, and communication across disciplines and stakeholder audiences. Students then form small multidisciplinary teams supervised by a multidisciplinary faculty group, to undertake a client-oriented collaborative research project related to sustainability in southern California. The research project is expected to form part of each student's dissertation, and result in either a professional report or publication.
