Quality Indicators

Description

There are many ways to gauge the quality of graduate education. These web pages were developed in an effort to show how, based on any of a number of indices, UT's graduate programs and students are among the very best in the world. Our assumption is that no single quality indicator is better than another. Viewed individually, each may be limited. In combination, however, they attest to the strength of graduate education at the University of Texas.

What these indices reveal is that UT has an extremely large number of nationally ranked programs whose students are successfully employed and certified. These pages underscore the innumerable national honors and awards annually received by UT graduate students, and the substantial amount of extramural funding captured by UT graduate students and programs. In reading these pages, you will learn about the many discoveries, innovations and pedagogical accomplishments of graduate students at this institution, as well as the important contributions of UT graduate programs and students to citizens of the state, nation and world; and you will discover the high rate of scholarly and creative output of our graduate students.

But there are still other ways to discern the caliber of graduate education at UT. Contained within this web site, for example, is information suggesting that UT graduate programs are not only among the most selective in admitting students, but that they are successful in recruiting those students to enroll. Moreover, beyond the rigorous education students receive in the more than ninety individual disciplines on campus, UT graduate students have the unique opportunity to participate in several professional enrichment and cross-disciplinary programs--programs that give students a sense of community and prepare them academically and professionally for life following graduate school. Finally, what is impressive is that, after receiving degrees, UT graduate students overwhelmingly report satisfaction with their education and comment on professional successes attributed directly to their studies at UT.
