The IntelliMedia Initiative
is a large-scale multi-disciplinary research program on
intelligent multimedia technologies. By fusing the
inferential capabilities of artificial intelligence with
sophisticated 3D animation, the IntelliMedia team creates
knowledge-based multimedia learning environments and
problem-solving environments that are populated by
intelligent animated agents. The mission of the IntelliMedia
Initiative is threefold, focusing on research (to conduct
multi-disciplinary study of intelligent multimedia
technologies combining AI, multimedia design, animation, and
cognitive science), development (to create intelligent
multimedia software for K-12, higher education, and
just-in-time training and intelligent help systems for
corporate and government training), and education (to create
a new generation of hybrid computer scientist/multimedia
designers through a multi-disciplinary
curriculum).
Co-directed by James Lester
(Computer Science) and Patrick Fitzgerald (Design &
Technology), IntelliMedia is a unique collaboration between
AI researchers, multimedia designers, animators, educators,
and cognitive scientists at North Carolina State University.
Affiliated faculty and students hold faculty positions and
research assistantships in the College of Engineering, the
School of Design, and the College of Education and
Psychology.
