Employment Data of Recent Doctoral Graduates

Description

CPST and thirteen professional societies were awarded a grant from the Sloan Foundation, the National Science Foundation and the Burroughs Wellcome Fund to begin efforts to improve data collection and dissemination on the employment of recent doctoral graduates in science and engineering. After conducting an initial needs assessment, a core set of survey questions was developed for professional societies in this pilot effort to include in the surveys they send to graduates about six months after graduation. Data included employment status, job search methods, permanence of position, sector of employment, work activities, salary, relationship between education and employment, and questions designed to tap underemployment. The data supplement and complement those collected by the National Science Foundation.
