Community Fellows Program

Description

CGU Community Fellows are advanced graduate students and professional staff members from a wide range of community service agencies who are deeply committed to making a significant difference in their communities. These professionals benefit from a course of graduate study that is applied to the needs of their organizations. Successful applicants must occupy a position that would allow them to improve the lives of under- served constituencies by implementing theory and strategy learned at CGU. Fellows come from relevant disciplines that include Behavioral and Organizational Sciences; Management, Education Administration, Politics and Economics, and Information Science.

Claremont Graduate University's Community Fellows Program benefits many Los Angeles area organizations and their under-served constituencies. It provides student consultants to local agencies, and brings some of Southern California's most dedicated community leaders to the University to pursue further education. Consultants are able to offer expertise in areas such as marketing, program evaluation, survey research, statistical analyses, education administration, organizational change, human resources, staff training, finance, and information technology.

The Community Fellows Program aims to strengthen ties between the University and under-served populations by pursuing the following three goals: (1) help private, civic, and community-based nonprofit organizations address the needs of historically under-served populations by completing important projects that might not otherwise be feasible or affordable; (2) provide paid consulting opportunities to advanced graduate students who are committed to working with under-served populations; and (3) increase the efficiency and effectiveness of community nonprofit organizations through sponsoring advanced education for community leaders.
