Industrial Leadership in Physics

Description

The Physics Department of Georgetown University is offering a novel graduate program in physics expected to admit its first class in the Fall of 2001. The proposed doctoral curriculum differs from those found at other universities, and is tailored to match both the needs of the community and the resources present at Georgetown. The program concentrates on Solid State Physics and includes exposure to the business world through both coursework and industrial internships. The department believes that this curriculum has a high chance for success and has the potential for national exposure within the physics community. To their knowledge, this is the most significant and innovative reform of physics graduate curriculum nationwide.
