Title

IGERT in Geographic Information Science

Description
IGERT in Geographic Information Science (GI Science) is a multidisciplinary project at the University at Buffalo funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). Doctoral students from eight academic departments are eligible to participate in the program. Students meet all the normal Ph.D. requirements of their home departments, take a set of core and elective courses in GI Science, and participate in internships, seminars, and other research and educational activities. By awarding degrees in traditional disciplines while having an inherently multidisciplinary program of study, the program provides a possible solution to the problem posed by the mismatch between appropriate fields of doctoral study in our rapidly changing world, and the traditional academic disciplines. Students following the GI Science curriculum are also eligible to receive an Advanced Certificate in Geographic Information Science from the New York State Education Department upon graduation.
