National Convocation on Science and Engineering Doctoral Education

Description

The National Academy of Sciences, with co-sponsorship from the National Academy of Engineering; Institute of Medicine; and Committee on Science, Engineering, and Public Policy (COSEPUP), held a National Convocation on Doctoral Science and Engineering Education titled, "From Discussion to Action: Meeting the Needs of Future Generations of Graduate Scientists and Engineers." The convocation took place on June 15, 1996 at the National Academy of Sciences Building in Washington, DC. Through the convocation proceedings, the Academy--in conjunction with many science and engineering disciplinary societies, employers, and university and student organizations--highlighted new strategies and provided information individuals need to take additional steps to improve the doctoral science and engineering education system.
