Multi-Institution Cooperative Degree Program

Description

Students enter the Multi-Institution Cooperative Degree program with diverse undergraduate training in engineering, physical, or biological sciences. The multidisciplinary curriculum was structured to develop a common philosophy of the interrelationship of structure, properties, and synthesis of materials. Admission into the Materials Science Graduate Program through UAB is by recommendation of the UAB Materials Science Program Committee. The program committee may waive some course work for students entering the program with a master's degree in an appropriate discipline. On acceptance into the program, students are affiliated with a "host" department. Assistantships may be awarded either by the host department or by the Materials Science Program Committee. Courses may be taken at UAB, the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, or the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Near the end of formal course work, students must pass a comprehensive examination and present a dissertation proposal.
