Survival Skills & Ethics Program

Description

The University of Pittsburgh began paying serious attention to personal skills thirteen years ago, when Michael Zigmond designed a series of "survival skills" seminars. Today, graduate students are offered one full-day workshop per month on topics including writing for the public, giving a speech, designing CVs and resumes, handling interviews, getting and keeping a job, negotiating, getting funded, managing a career, women and underrepresented minorities, and ethical issues. Relevant ethical issues include the content of CVs, job balancing for dual-career couples, and intellectual property issues. Faculty are invited to participate by leading discussions.
