Young members of the
American Geophysical Union have taken the lead in developing
and implementing a novel program to address the career
concerns of AGU members. These activities include career
development workshops held at AGU meetings, a workshop on
reforming graduate education in the geosciences, the
acquisition of detailed statistics on the applicant pool,
and the publication of "To Boldly Go: A Practical Career
Guide for Scientists."
A revised and updated second edition is available as Put Your Science
to Work: The Take-Charge Career Guide for Scientists.
