Interdisciplinary Ph.D. Program

Description

MSU offers doctoral students the opportunity to create their own unique interdisciplinary Ph.D. programs. Along with their faculty mentors, students design a dual-major doctoral program that reflects the required courses and standards for both departments with a single dissertation. Examples include Physics and an engineering discipline, Agricultural Economics and Economics, and English and History. The request for a dual-major must be made early in the doctoral program, and requires approval by the student's faculty guidance committee, department chairs, deans of the appropriate colleges, and the Dean of The Graduate School.
