What Do Employers Want in a Ph.D.?
This resource aims to help doctoral students reflect upon what skills that
they need to acquire now to prepare themselves for entering the job market once
they have completed their doctorate. As part of a recent survey of UW
alumni (1995-2001) residing in the Puget Sound area, doctoral graduates were
asked the following question:
What does your employing sector want in Ph.D.'s? (Skill sets, experience, qualifications)
Their responses are grouped according to the sector in which they worked and
are presented below.
