Contributions to Society or Community
Writing

Ten respondents indicated that they contribute to society or the community by using their scholarly expertise as writers.  The following are samples of the data that were included in this category:

• Writing and research for community publications outside my field
• Currently writing in free time and  intend to publish articles
• Analytical, writing and research skills applied to volunteer work and free-lance writing
• Writing and editing for non-profit publications
• Writing non-academically for local newspapers
• Occasional publication of op-ed pieces
• Contribution of articles on evolution to non-profit educational websites
