Contributions to Society or Community
Cross-Cultural and International Activities

Twenty respondents indicated they contribute to society or community by using their scholarly expertise in international or cross-cultural projects.  The following are samples from the data that were included in this category:

  • International development projects, e.g. 1999 mission through ACDI/VOCA to assist State of Tocantins (Brazil) with development of aquaculture industry
  • International health care teams
  • Traveling to Africa next year during sabbatical to assist in the United Nation's Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization's (UNESCO) Community Telemedia Project: assisting small villages with computer and media (radio) services
  • Assisting Native American tribes with language revitalization
  • Teaching English as a Second Language (ESL)
  • Activism work in ethnic minority/immigrant communities
  • Service work for the World Health Organization (WHO)
