ELIGIBILITY

Any graduate student who has achieved candidacy for a PhD, DMA, AudD, DNP, DPT, and EdD degree and will be enrolled during the following academic year is eligible for The Graduate School Medal.

NOMINATION PROCEDURES

Nominations must be received in The Graduate School no later than January 28, 2008.

Doctoral candidates may be nominated by departments and programs that lie within the jurisdiction of The Graduate School.  These are the PhD, DMA, AudD, DNP, DPT, and EdD programs.  The JD, MD, PharmD, and DDS programs are not included.

Each nomination—to be submitted to the Dean of The Graduate School consists of the following (sent either in paper or electronically, as noted):

  • a nomination cover sheet;  (paper)

  • an unofficial UW transcript;  (paper)

  • a curriculum vitae from the student (electronic)

  • a 1- to 2-page personal statement from the student;  (electronic)

  • a 1- to 2-page nomination letter from a dean/director/chair; (electronic) and

  • a 1-2 page letter from the chair of the nominee’s doctoral supervisory committee (electronic).

These materials are mandatory, however, if the student wishes to include additional references that address the impact of her or his work, up to two additional letters of recommendation may be appended (electronically).

Nominations that meet initial review requirements will be examined by The Graduate School Executive Staff (GSES). The GSES will select a pool of finalists to be forwarded to The Graduate School Council for consideration. The Council will review the finalists’ applications, conduct candidate interviews at their February 21, 2008 meeting, and make the final selection.

Nominations must be submitted to The Graduate School by January 28, 2008 to be accepted for consideration for the following academic year.  Awardees will be notified as soon as the selection process is completed so that they can make arrangements to attend the fellowship reception at the University of Washington Club in spring 2008.
