Graduate School Admissions
Visiting Graduate Students
Admission Requirements:
- Applicant must be in good standing and actively pursuing a graduate degree at another regionally accredited academic institution.
- Applicant must plan to transfer a limited number of graduate credits taken at the UW back to the home institution.
- Courses must be approved by the department of interest.
- A Visiting Graduate Student will be permitted to register on a space available basis.
- Length of enrollment as a Visiting Graduate Student is determined by the number of quarters approved by the department of interest.
Application materials submission checklist
- Submit a Graduate School application and fee. Apply On-Line
- Select Application Type: Visiting Graduate
- Select a Graduate Program and view additional steps to complete electronically in the online application for Visiting Graduate applicants or additional materials requested by that Graduate Program.
- Submit a Certificate of Status Form - download, print and complete the following PDF form and have it signed by the Dean of your current graduate school.
Additional Requirements for International Applicants
- English Language Proficiency: A satisfactory command of the English language is required for admission. Applicants who are not citizens of the United States on the date of admission, and whose native language is other than English, must meet this requirement. See Graduate School Memo #8 for the University's policy.
- Completed Statement of Financial Ability Form. UW Statement of Financial Ability form: once you have submitted your application online you must log back in to the online application at https://www.grad.washington.edu/application to access the form.
- International students must register for full course of study (10 credits) each quarter of attendance as Visiting Graduate Students.

- Request Educational Testing Service, PO Box 6151, Princeton, NJ 08541-6151 to forward your TOEFL score report using our institution code #4854. Score reports over two years old (from the test date) are no longer valid (International applicants only)

A Visiting Graduate Student cannot earn a graduate degree from the University of Washington. Admission to the University of Washington as a Visiting Graduate Student does not guarantee admission to the Graduate School.
