Generally, a master's degree or equivalent in the same field of music or music performance.

Additional Instructions

For voice applicants, pre-audition videos are highly recommended (but not required).  Formal invitations for a campus audition will not be mailed until January 1st, but those who submit pre-audition videos by November 15th will be given an indication about whether to apply online to the UW by the December 15th deadline and to plan a campus audition, as soon as the videos are viewed. Please create a silent link to your YouTube video, or an invitation to a dropbox folder, and send it to Voice/Choral chair Giselle Wyers (

International Funding Note:

Additional International Info: * The School of Music requires ALL international applicants whose native language is not English, EVEN those who have received a prior U.S. degree, to submit an official TOEFL score for admission consideration. Minimum score for admission to our doctoral programs is 100 on the TOEFLi (internet exam).  Note that this minimum score is higher than that listed on the Graduate School website because the School of Music sets a higher standard.  **Applicants who already have an unexpired F-1 student visa may observe the December 15th deadline.  Otherwise, international applicants must submit the online application and mail the application materials by November 1st.
