The Graduate School’s Office of Academic Programs coordinates the review of new graduate program proposals.

**There are three deadlines for the submission of new program proposals to the Graduate School each year: November 1, February 1, and May 1**

Proposals submitted before the above deadlines will receive a written response by the end of that quarter from the Office of Academic Programs.  This response will include a description of necessary revisions to the proposal and next steps in the review process, including the type of review assigned and a preliminary timeline for the review.

Prior to submission of the final proposal to the Graduate School, new Graduate Degree and Certificate Programs must circulate their Planning Notification of Intent (Planning NOI) and accompanying routing form to all stakeholders at the University of Washington for signatures. We recommend that this form be completed at the beginning of the new program development process to avoid delays in the proposal review and the approval process.

Reviews of new graduate programs are tailored to each individual proposal.  All new program proposals (degrees, certificates, and tracks/options/pathways) must follow the relevant guidelines found on this page.  The Comparison Chart provides a brief overview of the review process in each case.  Site visits are generally not required for new program proposals.
