Network of Interdisciplinary Initiatives (NII)

January 17, 2006 NII Event

The Network of Interdisciplinary Initiatives met on January 17, 2006 to respond to and further develop the Recommendations for Action made by the NII Working Group in November, 2005.  In this document, the Working Group identified three core areas where action would significantly increase support for for interdisciplinary (ID) teaching, research, and training at the University of Washington:

  • Faculty Appointments, Promotion, and Tenure

  • Allocation of Resources: Indirect Costs

  • Development and Outreach

Approximately 60 participants separated by topic into break-out groups that worked to (1) define concrete suggestions for policies to implement these recommendations; (2) identify ways to integrate such policies into the UW infrastructure; and (3) clarify how these policies can support and incentivize interdisciplinary activity at the UW.
