Network of Interdisciplinary Initiatives (NII)

June 1, 2005 NII Meeting

On June 1, 2005 the Graduate School hosted the end-of-year meeting of the Network of Interdisciplinary Initiatives.  Attendees included representatives from our 17 interdisciplinary programs--including graduate students and faculty who participated in our May 2 focus groups—and other UW parties invested in seeding, supporting, and sustaining interdisciplinary initiatives at the University.

During this meeting, we reviewed previous findings, shared observations from discussions with interdisciplinary faculty and students, discussed strategies for implementing prior recommendations, and heard several representatives of the newly-established NII Working Group present briefing papers on three recommendations. The meeting concluded with discussions of the briefing papers and plans for next year.  Links to the presentations can be found below.

Approximately 30 faculty, staff, and students participated in a lively discussion of institutional barriers and opportunities for strengthening support of interdisciplinary research, teaching, and training programs on the UW’s three campuses. The Graduate School would like to thank meeting attendees for their continued insight and commitment toward constructive progress that seeks to work within University structures to strengthen support for interdisciplinary teaching, research, and training programs.
