Credit Policy for Graduate School Practice Doctorate
degrees
Graduate School Practice Doctorates are practice-oriented
doctoral degrees supervised by the Graduate School (e.g., Doctor of Audiology,
Doctor of Nursing Practice, and Doctor of Physical Therapy).
Students are allowed to use up to 30 total credits from a
completed Graduate School Practice Doctorate toward the 90 required minimum for
a PhD degree. Likewise, students may apply up to 30 total credits of a
completed PhD degree toward the 90 required minimum for a Graduate School
Practice Doctorate. Students must meet the Graduate School minimum requirements
for the second degree (at least 18 credits at the 500 level and above; at least
18 numerically graded 400/500 level credits).
When a PhD and Practice Doctorate are earned concurrently,
departments may petition the Graduate School to count 30 specified credits
toward the total minimum credit count of each degree, for a total minimum of 150
credits. Core credits for either degree cannot be included in these 30 credits
applied to both degrees. It is the responsibility of each unit to assure that
the credits applied toward its degree are relevant to that degree. The student
must meet Graduate School requirements (18 credits 500 level and above, 18
numerically graded 400/500 level credits) for each degree.
